From fragmented pharmacy data to a trusted multi-tenant platform.

ClaritasRx helps life-sciences and specialty-pharmacy organizations make sense of fragmented data across a patient’s therapy journey.

This includes patient statuses, coverage, prescriptions, dispenses, prior authorizations, and referrals arriving from dozens of pharmacies and hubs.

Spark Eighteen built its next-generation Ascend 2.0 platform end-to-end, including product design, full-stack engineering, and QA.

The result is a multi-tenant healthcare SaaS platform serving pharmaceutical brands including Gilead, GSK, BeiGene, Amicus, and Ionis, with each operating as a fully isolated tenant on one shared codebase.

Building a secure, tenant-scoped healthcare data platform.

ClaritasRx’s first-generation product operated on Quickbase over an Airflow and MySQL pipeline and had reached its limits.

It was difficult to customize for each customer, costly to operate continuously, and restricted how data could be presented.

ClaritasRx needed a true multi-tenant SaaS platform capable of serving every pharmaceutical customer from one codebase.

The platform also needed to handle PHI under HIPAA with auditable, least-privilege access and continuously reconcile data from an analytics lake into the live application without creating separate versions for each client.

Spark Eighteen rebuilt the product end-to-end as Ascend 2.0, a multi-tenant, HIPAA-aware SaaS platform that unifies fragmented specialty-pharmacy data into one trusted platform for pharmaceutical teams.

The Challenge

ClaritasRx needed to replace its legacy product with a secure, multi-tenant SaaS platform that could isolate patient-level data, enforce HIPAA controls structurally, and continuously synchronize analytics data into the operational application.

Multi-Tenancy Over PHI

Every customer needed its own products and rules while patient-level data remained strictly and provably isolated, all from one codebase.

HIPAA by Construction

Every endpoint touching patient data had to be authorized and access-logged, enforced structurally rather than by convention.

Lake-to-App Sync

Data from the Athena data lake had to flow continuously into the operational database and be reconciled per tenant without loss.

The Solution

Spark Eighteen rebuilt ClaritasRx’s product end-to-end as Ascend 2.0, a multi-tenant, HIPAA-aware SaaS platform replacing the legacy Airflow and Quickbase stack.

We built a three-tier, tenant-scoped database with authorization and PHI logging on every endpoint.

The team also created the SDI service that reconciles the Athena data lake into the operational database.

The product surface includes Patient Watchtower, CRM, analytics, reporting, and the Ask Ascend AI assistant.

The platform was built on React 19 with AWS infrastructure, with QA owned end-to-end.

The Results

ClaritasRx now serves every pharmaceutical tenant from one codebase, with patient data authorized and audit-logged by construction.

Analytics, reporting, and AI-assisted insight operate on the same tenant-scoped foundation, allowing new brands and capabilities to be added without re-architecting the underlying platform.

3 tiers

Core, Workspace, and Operations database tiers with connection-level tenant isolation.

1 pipeline

SDI continuously reconciles the Athena data lake into the operational database per tenant.

5 products

Watchtower, CRM, analytics, self-serve reporting, and Ask Ascend on one foundation.

Business Outcomes

One codebase, every tenant - Connection-level scoping, RBAC, and feature flags serve all pharma brands from one deployment.

Always in sync - The SDI service reconciles the Athena data lake into the operational database per tenant and model.

Analytics and AI on one base - DuckDB, Tableau, and the Ask Ascend assistant share the same tenant-scoped data model.

Compliant by construction - Mandatory authorization and PHI access-logging make HIPAA a structural property of the API.

Legacy retired - ClaritasRx moved off Quickbase onto a purpose-built, fully owned SaaS platform.

Quality built in - Unit, integration, and 110+ Playwright E2E specs traced to Jira catch regressions before PHI.

Spark Eighteen helped us reimagine how we ingest, process, and deliver patient data insights. Their deep understanding of modern data platforms and regulatory requirements enabled us to move beyond legacy constraints and gain full control of our analytics. The transformation has enhanced scalability, reduced costs, and significantly improved client experiences. We value this partnership and are excited about the future.
